(Rock Hill, S.C.) — Rock Hill re-opened its annual Founders Holiday Ice Rink last month, allowing family and friends to rent ice skates and have an experience out on the ice.
The ice rink, which opened Nov. 19, has already attracted a number of visitors looking for a holiday activity.
“This is our first time at this location. We’ve brought the kids ice skating before, but this is actually our first time here,” said Aisha Foot, of Charlotte. “We just wanted to do something fun for the kids and with it being winter, we though it would be a cool outing to do ice skating.”
A number of parents said they decided to visit the holiday rink, because they thought their children would enjoy it.
“We came out here today just looking for something fun to do with the kids. Always wanted to go ice skating and really we don’t have that opportunity around here, so that’s why we decided to come out here today,” said Gabe Gregory.
“I’m a retired great grandmother. I have eight great grandkids (that) are going to be skating today for the first time,” said Dianne Crosby. “I’ve seen them putting it up and I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.”
Those who visited also said they were impressed with the ice rink.
“I think for a pop-up ice skating rink, it’s pretty cool. The kids seems to be having a good time and they’re not ready to leave,” said Gregory. “I think Rock Hill’s done a really good job of transforming this area. First they were adding the fountain and (on) their Main Street (there) is really a lot to do. So it’s really been transformed over the years.”
Foot said she brought her family down from Charlotte.
“I think it’s cool that it’s an outdoor ice skating rink. We really like that it was more affordable than the Charlotte option,” said Foot. “It was a good central location and we like that it’s outdoors.”
The holiday ice rink will remain open until Jan. 17.
