History
The name 1763 Media refers to the year the historic Treaty of Augusta was signed, which established boundary lines between Indigenous peoples and British colonial officials, in order to establish peace and settle land disputes following the French and Indian War.
The agreement between colonial leaders and a number of tribes, including the Catawba Nation, was signed on Nov. 10, 1763 — in what is now August, Georgia — and established the boundaries that would become present day Rock Hill, S.C., site of our headquarters.
Thus, by referencing this historic moment, our organization is demonstrating its commitment to examining power dynamics, cultural exchange and diverse perspectives through our reporting and research.
