(Rock Hill, S.C.) — Winthrop University’s Center for Career Development and Internships (or CDI) often hosts events that gives students an opportunity to dress professionally.
The CDI helps students acquire professional attire for interviews and connects them with career fairs, networking events and internships.
At last month’s Career Closet event, students were able to choose professional clothing including suits, blazers, collared shirts, blouses, slacks, dresses, shoes and ties. However, the events are hosted throughout the semester.
“For the Career Closet, you’re getting professional wear that’s completely free,” said Kenya Ratliff, a career coach with the CDI.
Free professional headshot photos were available as well. Using Popcam, a portable headshot kiosk, students created an account to send the photos to, which were delivered about a week later.
Tyler Rinda, a business administration major, said there were lots of options to find the right size.
“(Size) 30 was too long and wide, 28 was too tight, but 29 was just right,” Rinda said.
The clothing is provided for free, due to donations from community members, including Winthrop alum.
Becky Ross, the CDI director, said she wants to say “thank you” to those who donate.
“I’d say my word is gratitude. We’re so grateful for the individuals in the community here on campus and the greater Rock Hill area,” Ross said.
The Career Closet is available on Wednesdays from 1:30-3 p.m and Thursdays from 11:30-12:30 p.m in 312 Bancroft Hall or by appointment.
The CDI will be host another career readiness event, a dinner focusing on etiquette, on March 31.
