(Rock Hill, S.C.) — Winthrop University’s Vision of Prayze (WUVOP) choir is a student organization that promotes fellowship through music and campus and community involvement.

A’Nya Belton has been a member of the gospel choir, which rehearses every Wednesday night in Owens Hall, for two years.

“My experience was impactful, because I met a lot of friends that I’m close with now in my junior year. And WUVOP it just branches you to do new things, stepping out of your comfort zone, from doing community service, hosting events and going to different churches,” Belton said.

Winthrop senior Ka’Darrius Ellerbe has been a member of the choir for four years and now serves as its student director.

“Our campus presence hasn’t been as known as some organizations unfortunately, but we reckon to improve that. You know we are being more intentional about our campus presence,” said Ellerbe.

Even though campus awareness is not where Ellerbe wishes it would be, he says the choir has many engagement opportunities planned throughout this semester.

Junior Jermarius Evans has been a member of Vision of Prayze for three years and is now the group’s vice president of membership and retention.

“Being on WUVOP since my freshman year, it has been an amazing experience. I grew up singing in church since I was about four, singing with my dad, then coming to college I knew I wanted to keep that going. So getting involved in WUVOP had to be done,” said Evans.

Over the weekend, the choir held a concert, at Mt. Prospect Baptist Church in Rock Hill, to celebrate the organization’s 15-year anniversary.
